When we got to the park Pat Ludwick gave us directions and an agenda and we were off...to work and play. We visited the beach at Jannett's Pier first to adjust these desert dwellers to the east coast, then on to Wright Brothers NM.
Tuesday we saw the Bodie (said body) Island Lighthouse, swam the beach at Oregon Inlet, and then to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse for the significant climb to the top (257 steps, the view was incredible).
Wednesday we traveled to Ocracoke (about 2 hours by car and Ferry) There we saw the Ocracoke Lighthouse and museum, ran from the Russian Rats, (actually quite cute although huge) and explored the village where folks speak their own Ocracokian dialect. After swimming and sand castling at the beach in Ocracoke we discovered that sand crabs like to sit in the road at night.
On Friday we visited Festival Park and Fort Raleigh and dinned on Crab legs and scallions for the first time ever – Delicious!
On Saturday we spent the entire day at the beach starting with an early morning stroll where we were thrilled to see a dolphin. However later that day there were 5 more jumping waves together and playing near where we swam.
On the way home we stopped at Cumberland Gap to install Advantage 5 and meet with Scott Teodorski. He took us on a personalized tour of the Cumberland Gap Cave. Wow that was amazing.
And then we were back to the ‘beautiful in a very different way’ desert where we started from but first we stopped to see El Morro (in New Mexico) then on to HOME.
Thank You Pat and Scott for such a wonder time, we can't wait to come back!
